Join bluebird bio’s European team as the Human Resources Business Partner, to bring the promise of gene therapy to patients with cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy, thalassemia, and sickle cell disease.  bluebird bio seeks collaborative, creative and passionate individuals with European experience to solve organizational challenges through people-related solutions.

Europe is bluebird’s first launch market and you will help build the team that will define and execute how bluebird’s gene therapies will be brought to patients in Europe.  This is not the pharmaceutical launch of yesterday!  You’ll be a champion of bluebird’s culture and values, partnering with our business leaders to help them build their groups. Your day may start off coaching a leader on how to develop their employees, shift to resolving a people issue and end with managing a program that helps grow our teams.  No matter what, you are exceptionally focused on putting them first, and being as clear and transparent as possible to help our teams be successful at bluebird.

About the role:

You’ll partner with multiple areas of the business and provide thoughtful advice and support for their issues.  You will develop strong, trust-based relationships with groups that will seek your guidance.  A solid understanding of business goals and objectives will further your ability to provide scalable solutions.  As a culture-builder, you will look for ways to align programs and objectives with our core values.  You are motivated by being an employee champion and change agent. You are comfortable assessing and anticipating HR-related needs. Communicating needs proactively with our HR team and business groups, you seek to develop integrated solutions.

Partnering with our EU birds, you’ll drive cross-site integration and develop global business-aligned and innovative people strategies in a quickly scaling org.  In addition, you’ll proactively address key challenges related to building remote/global teams and will effectively navigate change in a matrixed and dynamic environment.

  • Partners with Talent Acquisition to ensure workforce planning, recruiting and hiring strategies are successful.
  • Proactively suggests new alternatives to current HR practices to help build programs and processes that allow the company to scale.
  • Comfortable rolling up your sleeves to get things done and then shifting gears to more complex discussions.
  • Collaborative, open-minded and results-oriented.
  • Inspired by working in a progressive and dynamic environment. Embraces learning and feedback.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7-10 years of HR experience; at least 2 years of global HR experience.
  • Fluency in another language other than English preferred.
