bluebird bio’s Oncology Discovery team is looking for a Senior Associate Scientist to participate in the identification and technical development of novel strategies to enhance anti-tumor T cell activity. Help us utilize synthetic biology and genetic engineering approaches to develop next generation cellular immunotherapies. This position will serve a critical function by providing laboratory level support to project leads with a focus on cellular and molecular immunology. The successful candidate will use their proficiency in several cell and molecular biology techniques to help drive exploratory science, make recommendations on next steps, and facilitate the transition to pre-clinical development.  Ample opportunity exists for career development and advancement.

About the role:

  • Use lentiviral vectors to genetically modify freshly isolated T lymphocytes
  • Characterize genetically modified primary T lymphocytes using standard immunological assays including flow cytometry
  • Compile and present research data to functional teams
  • Maintain a lab notebook and contribute to support documentation when necessary
  • Independently manage and execute on key project workstreams
  • Significantly contribute to experimental design and project directions
  • Provide critical lab support while working in a collaborative team environment

About you:

  • BS/MS in immunology, cancer biology, cell biology or related discipline with 2+ years’ experience in an industry or academic research setting. Cancer immunology experience a plus
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture is necessary. Experience with the culture of human T lymphocytes is a plus
  • Expertise acquiring and analyzing flow cytometry data is necessary
  • Experience with standard immunological assays a plus
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with Excel, Power Point, Graphpad Prism
  • Proven ability to effectively plan and organize work activities to meet schedules and deadlines. Superb organizational skills
  • Effectively work independently and as part of a collaborative team comprised of multiple functional groups
  • Capable of critical thinking and problem solving
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
