Lab Operations Specialist, Oncology R&D

Join bluebird bio’s enthusiastic and collaborative Oncology Research & Development team by contributing to the overall success of our novel gene therapy-based immunotherapy approach. This new Inventory Manager will join our group focused on the design, development, and evaluation novel cellular immunotherapy approaches for clinical applications.  This role will be responsible for managing inventory and supporting lab operations of the Oncology research organization.

About the job:

  • Maintains cell repository and inventory database
  • Works closely with Oncology research personnel as well as facilities and IT teams
  • Provides training on LIMS and ELN systems for all Oncology R&D incoming personnel
  • Provide day to day end user support for these systems, while triaging issues to IT as appropriate
  • Act as the SME in regards to the business processes that LIMS and ELN systems support
  • Partner with the Laboratory Information Systems team on maintaining the current state, as well as working to enhance, the LIMS and ELN systems
  • Represent Oncology R&D on cross-functional initiatives where LIMS and ELN systems would be involved and/or impacted
  • Prepares essential reagents to support research personnel
  • Provides critical lab support while working in a collaborative team environment (including but not limited to maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies ordering and inventory)

About you:

  • BS in biology or related discipline with 1-2 years of related experience in a laboratory environment
  • Excellent organizational skills, proven ability to effectively plan and organize work activities to meet schedules and deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Sharepoint and Sapio Sciences systems a plus
  • Experience with cell culture a plus
  • Proven ability to effectively plan and organize work activities to meet schedules and deadlines

  • Understanding of safe lab practices and BSL requirements
